About Sue’s Isle of Wight Walks

Welcome to my world of walking!

About Sue’s Isle of Wight Walks is a site dedicated to walking the Isle of Wight.

As a relative newcomer to the Isle of Wight, it has been my great pleasure to get to know this wonderful gem of an island. I have made it my mission to share this experience with you!

Walking has always been my passion and discovering places right on my doorstep is, I suspect, something most of us are now familiar with, since those lockdowns.

The walks I present in this collection are of varying lengths, from 1 – 2 hours mornings and afternoons to a whole day. The choice is yours.

I hope there is something for everyone here. These walks – draw on the history, geography and geology of these areas. The aim of my walks (as with my Zumba!) is that they should be exercise by default i.e. so much fun that you don’t realise you’re doing it!

I hope you enjoy the descriptions and pictures. There are umpteen thousand I could have chosen! And that you may decide to join me sometime in the future.

Hope so!

About Me

Where do I start?! Easiest perhaps to work backwards, as from my most recent life experiences. I moved to the Isle of Wight in February 2021 and have been busy getting to know my new home, most notably the paths of the Island of which there are hundreds. I particularly love coastal walking so I have completed the ‘Round the Island’ route and regularly revisit my favourite parts.

Before moving here, I lived in Southampton, Winchester area, Boston (USA), Yorkshire, London, Surrey – and went to university in Exeter! My C.V. makes for interesting but extremely lengthy reading – there aren’t many jobs I haven’t turned my hand to! But of longest duration are teaching (primary school and TEFL), writing plays and guided reading scripts for the school market (see and dancing my socks off as a Zumba instructor ( )! Eclectic doesn’t really cover it!

So offering myself as a freelance guided walk leader is a new venture, prompted by my desire to share all the wonderful places I have discovered, walking solo, on the Isle of Wight. I have walked extensively throughout Britain and done such ‘marathons’ as The Three Peaks Walk in the Dales plus such beauties as Snowdonia, Scafell and Ben Nevis. It has been a real treat for me discovering the Isle of Wight and all it has to offer – walking pretty much every day since I got here!

I would love to enjoy others company with me on my walks – so I greatly look forward to hearing from you – the idea being to provide a service that is specific to customer requirements – in terms of length of walk, level of difficulty – and offering historic, literary and geographic/geological insights where appropriate.

Happy to answer any enquiries. Sue
