Walking from Colwell bay to Alum Bay

saturday October 15th

Walking from Colwell bay to Alum Bay as part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival.

Saturday morning 10.30 (Oct 15) found me back at Colwell, primed and ready for the walk to Alum Bay.

The following could be titled ‘A Tale of Two Walks’ or even three if you include the one I did for the Spring Festival earlier this year, 14th May to be precise. The latter took place in brilliant sunshine – shorts n suncream weather. Thursdays ‘reccie’ wasn’t dissimilar – beautiful clear blue skies. Sadly, we weren’t so lucky on the day – everyone received a thorough soaking just 20 minutes into the walk. There was also a very ‘brisk breeze’, whipping up the waves – this staying with us for the duration. However, it did clear – with the usual great views of the Needles.

I had ‘thrown this walk in’ at the last moment so I was pleased with the number who showed up.

I had also met friends made at previous walks at The Spyglass Inn, Ventnor on Thursday night after my reccie walk which was lovely.

On Friday I did a great walk at Alverstone –  treated to a number of beautiful red squirrels – a route I haven’t done before and with a very interesting commentary given by Ray,  the walk leader.

I’m hoping to do more walks at the next festival – currently playing with the idea of doing a ’round the Island’ via 4 walks – but we’ll see. Life is a bit topsy-turvy turvy at the moment.

Hope you enjoy the pics – taken on reccie and on the day – sadly rather few in case of the latter due to the weather conditions. But great fun anyway –  and thanks as always for all the positive feedback.
